"Odyssey" this week! "Struwwelpeter" in two weeks!
It's showtime! Hillsdale Preparatory School presents "The Odyssey," Tuesday March 24 and Thursday March 26 at 7pm at the school, 160 Mechanic St. in Hillsdale. Admission is free, the show lasts about an hour. I am so proud of the hard work of these students. Every student in the school is in the cast -- that's 70 kids onstage! If you'd like to see part of the script, click on the "Odyssey" link on my homepage. I'm also working on Matt Fuerst's "Struwwelpeter," a new song cycle based on the classic (and dark) German children's stories. It's all about what happens to naughty little girls and boys when they don't obey their parents (they starve to death, their thumbs get cut off, and woodland animals put out a fatwa on them). All set to music! ;) The performance is Sunday, April 5 at 3pm at McNamara Rehearsal Hall inside the Howard Music Building, on the campus of Hillsdale College. This performance is part of Assistant Professor Brad Blackham's faculty piano recital -- Matt has dedicated these pieces to Brad's adorable toddler Audrey. (But I am thrilled that there is a song with the word 'Paul' in the title -- I'm going to surprise my son, and also think about my dear Prof.)
